A not-so-brief note. OK, so basically I got yelled-at because of the mirror noise* my Canon EOS 5D Mark II digital SLR camera was making, so after Cinyras and Myrrha I bailed on shooting any more stills of the performance.

So I have no still photography whatsoever from Phaeton, Eros and Phoebe, or Baucis and Philemon. Sorry...

After a minute or two to realized I could continue, but shooting video. So these three videos were shot using my 5D Mark II camera but without the camera-mounted Røde shotgun mic I would normally use.

So these were shot with the cr*ppy on-board camera mic and the sound quality is really pretty horrible (you can hear the noise from me adjusting the tripod or zooming or changing the exposure). Anyway, video post-processing was done in Adobe Premier Pro CS 6.0.

* TECHNICAL NOTE: that sound single lens reflex (SLR) digital cameras make while taking photos is not something Canon or Nikon artificially add in to make you look cool when you're using their cameras. It's the actual sound of the mechanical operation that flips the mirror up out of the way so that the image can travel straight through the camera and be recorded by the CMOS sensor, and the activation of the shutter itself.

Mirror down, the image is reflected up into the viewfinder so I can see what I'm photographing; mirror up, the photo is taken. There's no way to take a photo with an SLR camera without making that sound. (No: Live View mode in a Canon camera doesn't turn the mirror-flip sound off, it only delays it).

It's interesting to note that my 30-year-old Pentax ME Super film SLR makes exactly the same sound. It's not some cool gimmick that can be "turned off" by "some settting somewhere" as the guy who yelled at me during the performance wanted me to do.
