The Portage Fill-Harmonic is *the* Strawberry Festival band, having played at every Strawberry Festival that I can remember, and at some that I've probably forgotten... Still great, after all these years.

These guys, of course, are not the Sound Band. The only reason I've
titled the photos that way is that I didn't catch what they called
themselves, and two of them (Stefan Rubicz, keyboards, and the
drummer) were in the Sound Band last year, and may now be also, for
all I know. I stumbled upon these guys at the Village Green Saturday
afternoon, where they apparently had just set up and started playing.
They were stunningly good. Aside from Stefan's excellent keyboarding
and the skittle-band simplicity of the drumming, the guitar player (he
looks familiar but I don't know his name) was astonishing in his
effortless ability to seemingly riff through complex vamps without so
much as an apparent misstep. I hope to hear them all play again; I
have no idea when that might be. I left $5.00 in their Union
Jack-draped collection box.

A little bit of everything. Around town, people, booths, kids, Ober Park, the Carnival...

The Great Divide (along with Vashimba, probably, and certainly the Portage Fill) used to define the Vashon Strawberry Festival musically. Often the Great Divide would close out the Festival on Sunday evenings when all the craftspeople (I used to be a potter, then - we're talking 25 years ago) were doing their loadouts...
